Monarch Airlines to retire last Airbus A300-600 in April

Almasalla Arab Travel Portal News – UK leisure carrier Monarch Airlines has finalized plans to retire its last Airbus A300-600s in April, marking the end of 23 years’ service for the carrier.

London Luton-based Monarch will operate its final commercial A300 flight on April 13. The flight will be operated by G-OJMR, which was delivered new to the carrier in 1991.

“The A300-600s will leave our fleet this winter and they go with our blessing,” Monarch Group chairman Iain Rawlinson said at a recent Aviation Club luncheon in London. “Their time has passed. It’s time to move on.”

The remainder of Monarch’s 39-aircraft fleet includes A320-200s, A321-200s, A330-200s and Boeing 757-200s.

Monarch is expected to announce an order for 60 narrowbody aircraft in the first quarter of 2014, with Airbus, Boeing and Bombardier in contention. The order will expand its fleet to 62 aircraft.
