In an exciting development, the International Tourism Studies Association (ITSA) and the International Journal of Tourism Cities (IJTC) have appointed Prof. Wolfgang G. Arlt as the new Regional Vice President for South Asia and Nepal. With over 47 years of experience with China and 40 years in the tourism industry, Prof. Wolfgang brings a wealth of knowledge and a distinguished track record to this role.
Throughout his career, Prof. Wolfgang has made notable contributions to the field. He served as a Professor of International Tourism Management for 18 years (2002–2020), and led the China Outbound Tourism Research Institute (COTRI) as CEO for 20 years, where he fostered valuable research initiatives and strengthened international tourism connections. Recently, he has taken on the role of CEO at the Meaningful Tourism Centre, an organization he founded three years ago, where he also continues as Director.
Currently based in Nepal, Prof. Wolfgang is focused on advancing sustainable and meaningful tourism practices across South Asia. His leadership is set to play a critical role in ITSA’s initiatives, promoting growth and fostering impactful change in tourism across the region.
