Lufthansa to deploy flagship B747-8 on Mumbai-Frankfurt route from July 15, 2014

Almasalla Arab Travel Portal News –  Realising the significance of the Indian market for its route network, Lufthansa will launch its flagship Boeing 747-8, termed as Queen of the Skies, between Mumbai and Frankfurt on July 15, 2014. Mumbai will be Lufthana’s third city in India to welcome the aircraft after Delhi and Bengaluru. Lufthansa is the global launch customer for the latest version of the family of jumbo jets.

Wolfgang Will, Director South Asia, Lufthansa, said, “We are very pleased to announce the launch of B747-8 service to Mumbai. The introduction of the Queen of the Skies to Mumbai underlines our commitment to provide Indian customers with the best Lufthansa experience worldwide. The B747-8 sets new standards of comfort and efficiency. Our customers will be able to experience Lufthansa’s latest in-flight products, such as a sophisticated new Business Class seat featuring a 6.5 feet long full-flat bed with vastly improved sleeping comfort and greater privacy.” The new aircraft on Lufthansa’s daily direct Mumbai-Frankfurt service replaces the last B747-400 to operate on routes to India.

The new B747-8 offers enhanced Economy Class with five to seven cms more leg room and 52 cm wide seats. The storage area, head space and the in-flight entertainment system have also been augmented in all three classes. The significantly improved aerodynamics of the B747-8 wings, newly developed wingtips and GEnx-2B engines achieve a 15 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions per passenger and a 30 per cent reduction in noise emissions. The aircraft is configured with 8 First Class, 80 Business Class and 298 Economy Class seats.

Lufthansa’s new Business Class features ergonomically optimised seats which convert into a 6.5 feet-long full-flat bed at the push of a button with a special air cushion. The contemporary Business Class cabin design offer enhanced space and privacy using a V-shaped seating layout. This virtually doubles the distance between two neighbouring seats at shoulder level. There is better in-flight entertainment system with larger 15 inch monitors and noise reducing Sennheiser headsets.
