GRAND MILLENNIUM DUBAI PARTICIPATES IN EARTH HOUR

Almasalla Arab Travel Portal News –  Participated since about an hour Grand Millennium switch off some lights along with millions of residential and commercial buildings worldwide in support of Earth Hour, the global movement organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) that has become the largest initiative on sustainability and climate change.

Started as a one-off event in Australia in 2007, Earth Hour is now a truly global phenomenon that sees the lights go out at major icons from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, to the Gateway of India, the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace and Big Ben in London, the Las Vegas Strip, Niagara Falls and the Times Square in North America and, closer to home, the BurjKhalifa and Sheikh Zayed Mosque in the UAE.

At the Grand Millennium Dubai, the main hotel name and logo sign lights will be turned out on March 29th along with all external spot lights and garden lights, and non-essential basement lighting, while guests at the hotel and team members in the staff accommodation are being encouraged to switch off too.

According to General Manager, Mr Peter Mansourian, just 60 minutes could make an enormous difference in terms of the future of the planet: “For everyone, it is a small gesture, just turning off the lights for one hour, but in terms of igniting interest in environment issues, Earth Hour is unparalleled in its influence,” he said.

Mansourian added,“We aim to set a precedent at the Grand Millennium Dubai, but as well as saving energy, we know that it is equally important to create awareness of the movement and spur interest in the many schemes launched on the back of Earth Hour that aim to support the community and the environment alike.”
