Seychelles Daily (NATION) Newspaper records the island s positive tourism performance for last year
Almasalla Arab Travel Portal News – 2013 Statistics – Record visitor arrivals boost tourism earnings is the headline on the front page of the island s(NATION) newspaper. The front page article states:- Visitor arrival figures for 2013 stood at 230,272 – a new record – while tourism earnings jumped to US $ 343.6 million. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Central Bank of Seychelles (CBS) released these figures this week. The NBS confirmed that as December 31, 2013 the visitor arrival figure was 230,272 compared to 208,034 in 2012. This represents a 10.7% increase over 2012 and this figure is over two and a half times the total population of Seychelles and over five times the working population of the islands". The article went on to state:"Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Seychelles estimates from Tourism earnings in 2013 reached US$343.6million, representing an increase of 11& over the 2012 figures of US$ 310.3 million.
Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture has thanked the Editor of the ‘NATION’ daily newspaper for disseminating the positive achievements by the island’s tourism industry. "Mr Gerard Govinden, the Editor of the ‘NATION’ Newspaper needs to be thanked for his continued support of the tourism industry. He is helping to sensitize the population at large on the importance of us all working together in order to continue to achieve such positive results for the economy of Seychelles" Minister St.Ange said.
The NATION Newspaper is the biggest daily publication of the Seychelles and the Minister for Tourism and Culture said when expressing his words of thanks for their support: "When tourism is working, as it has done since 2009, the whole country breaths, but when it is not working everyone suffers. This is why it remains so important for everyone to join hands and work with the industry that remains the pillar of the Seychelles economy" Minister St.Ange said.
