Praslin artists showcase talents in the Seychelles second culinary and arts fiesta
 

 

 

 

 


ATP-  Arab tourism portal- A number of paintings were on exhibit at the Berjaya Praslin Resort Seychelles for this year s Praslin Culinary and Arts Fiesta which took place for the second time during the weekend of October 9-11.

 

The colourful exhibition was officially opened on October 10 during the launch of the second Praslin Culinary and Arts Fiesta by the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange.
Present at the ceremony were Minister for Health Mitcy Larue, the members of the National Assembly representing the Baie Ste Anne district Natasha Esther and that of Grand Anse Praslin Marc Volcere, principal secretary for culture Benjamine Rose, chief executive of the National Arts Council Jimmy Savy, and artists.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Speaking at the event, Mr Volcere said when curtains were drawn on the first fiesta last year, a promise was made to make it an annual event on the Seychelles’ calendar of events and this promise has been kept this year, as Praslin hosted its second fiesta.

 


He added that the Praslin Culinary and Arts Fiesta is a feast for all Praslinois and all those who appreciate the beauty of the island in all its aspects.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mr Volcere said the three-day event is a chance for artists hailing from Praslin to showcase their talents in their respective fields.

 

He also spoke about the two Praslinois musicians who were honoured and had their starts in the Seychelles’ Musicians Wall of Fame days prior to the event.  Mr Volcere said Joseph Louise and Jean Ally have both made their island proud.
Words of thanks to all those who have in one way or another made this Praslin Culinary and Arts Fiesta a reality and a feat were also echoed by Mr Volcere.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Minister St.Ange saluted all the Praslin artists who are working to bring their island forward and help reposition it. He also congratulated and thanked Messrs Ally and Louise for their contribution to the music industry of Seychelles.

 

He called on all Praslinois to remain united so that their island can keep progressing and their tourism industry can better.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Minister St.Ange said the bonding of culture and tourism together will help to consolidate our economy and that Praslin should bring culture in the midst of its tourism industry so that the island’s economy can prosper.

 

He called on hotels on Praslin to ensure that the culture of Seychelles is being promoted in all aspects – such as in music and cuisine.

 

The minister urged artists to keep creating beautiful works of art as these can also help to promote the beauty of our country.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

He also congratulated the tourism establishments that took part in the kiosk competition who have made the effort to have a touch of our Creole culture in their kiosks.

 


The artists who took part in the exhibition for this year’s Praslin Culinary and Arts Fiesta were Allen Barreau who is also a sculptor and craftsman, Raissa Libanotis, Daniel Stravens who is well-known for producing mural paintings, Daryl Kirchner, Jennifer G. Sam, Melissa de Charmoy Lablache, Sheena Laira, Sheila Markham, Raymond Dubisson and Rita Morel.
