The new Seychelles Tourism Academy construction is progressing well
Almasalla Arab Travel Portal News – The Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange accompanied by Flavien Joubert, the Principal of the Tourism Academy, Anne Lafortune, the PS for Tourism and Benjamine Rose, the PS for Culture joined Peter Moncherry of the Tourism Academy, Franky Petrousse, the appointed consultant for the construction project and the management of the Yangtze Construction Company of a site visit of the new Seychelles Tourism Academy. The visit which took place on Monday 24th March was for the Minister to appraise himself of the project development on site.
After tourism the construction site, Minister and his entourage held a formal meeting with the Management of the Yangtze Construction Company to map out the completion schedule for the new Seychelles Tourism Academy as the works had been running slightly behind schedule. It was agreed at that meeting that for the Phase One part of the construction project the following would be completed by the 15th July 2014: Academic Block of 15 Classrooms, the Language Laboratories, the Management Classroom + Library, the Security Guard House, the Public Restaurant & Bar and the Sewerage Plant. The Minister emphasized the urgency for the sewage plant as the equipment needs to be imported to be here in time. The Minister was also informed that all the furniture with regard to Phase 1 had already been delivered.
The contractor was requested to provide a progress report in a week’s time on all the areas that are to be completed by the 15th July 2014, including external works. Thereafter, there should be a monthly progress report emphasizing on completion date of each block. Minister St.Ange emphasized that if works for Phase 1 were not completed by the 15th July 2014 penalties as per the “FIDIC” contract agreement signed by the contractor, meaning 1% of the total Contract price per day penalty, will start to take effect.
For construction works on Phase 2 part of the project it was agreed by the contractor that this would be completed by the 14th December 2014. These include the Admin Main Block, the Demonstration Kitchen & Restaurant, the Banquette Room/ Meeting Room.
Minister St.Ange confirmed at the meeting that no works of the Phase 3 part of the project would be starting until all the works covered in Phase 2 had beed duly completed. Phase 3 includes works on the Hotel and the Wellness & Spa Room.
After his visit to the new Seychelles Tourism Academy, Minister Alain St.Ange said that the Government of Seychelles was investing in a Tourism Academy that would be an asset to the island’s tourism industry. "The Government is determined to deliver for Seychelles a Tourism Academy that will serve the industry that remains the pillar of our economy.
We are determined to continue to train our local workforce to ensure we have Seychellois in the frontline at our resorts" Minister St.Ange said.
