SCTA detects 279 violations in several tourist activities during January
Almasalla Arab Travel Portal News – A recently released report by the Department of Licensing and Quality Assurance in SCTA has revealed that it has detected in January, this year about 279 violations in several tourist activities. 29 of them have been investigated, accordingly the total of detected violations since the shift of authority on this sector from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to SCTA in mid Ramadan (25th August, 2010) and until last Shawal (August, 2013) were 11,956.
Violators who responded to SCTA’s action and visited SCTA’s branches to settle their cases were 3,521, and SCTA took into account their positive response. While operation license violators in the accommodation facilities who did not show their interest to SCTA’s action and come to SCTA’s branches to settle their cases will have lost the chance to defend themselves.
The report has further indicated that, most of the detected violations during last January, were in violating operation licenses in the accommodation facilities, as the number of violations in this sector reached 268, 205 of which were in furnished apartments, 18 in hotels, accordingly the total number of detected violations in the accommodation sector were 1,182, of which 2,34 in hotels and 8,833 were in furnished apartments.
Tour operators’ sector had only one violation until January. Also 10 violations were detected in travel and tourism agencies, accordingly the total number of violations in this sectors reached 604.
The report also focused on the operation licenses and classification certificates which were issued during January last for the accommodation sector. The issued operation licenses and classification certificates in this period were 188, 97 operation licenses for furnished departments, and 16 classification certificates for hotels, one each for resorts and tourist inns. Accordingly, the total number of issued licenses and certificates are 3,966 licenses and 2,471 certificates.
