Boeing, Air India work on 787 incidents

Almasalla Travel News – By Ashraf El gedawy – The Air India Boeing 787, which developed windshield cracks while landing at Melbourne on Monday, will to return Delhi Tuesday night after being repaired, airline officials said.

“The jet is being currently fixed with a new windshield,” Air India’s local manager Madhu Mathen told Indian agency PTI. He said the Dreamliner flight from Melbourne to Delhi left Tuesday according to its normal schedule.

On Oct. 15, the airline experienced another incident on a Dreamliner when a panel from the aircraft’s belly came off as the aircraft was landing at Bangalore. The airline had replaced the panel from its newest 787 in Delhi, which was awaiting permission to begin commercial flights. Early reports indicate the panel, which covers an air-conditioner bay, was not screwed on properly after inspection.

News of the Dreamliner incidents has caused some concern among passengers. Addressing the press in Mumbai, Boeing SVP- Asia-Pacific sales Dinesh Keskar said the manufacturer is in touch with Air India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on the incident. He said Air India had taken delivery of nine of the 27 787s it has on order.

Mumbai-based Jet Airways has 10 Dreamliners on order. The airline is evaluating its choice between the -800s and the -900s, Keskar said. Apart from the 787s, Air India also has three 777-300ERs on order. Jet Airways has 40 737s on order.
