Miss Seychelles next year will receive 10,000 R per month
Winners of Miss Seychelles…another world 2016 beauty pageant receive prizes as the announcement was made that from next year the winner will be receiving R.10,000. 00 monthly
aTP- Arab tourism portal- Winners of the Miss Seychelles…another world 2016 beauty pageant received their prizes on Friday evening during a ceremony held at the Eden Bleu hotel.
The newly crowned Miss Seychelles…another world Christine Barbier, first princess Lianne Barbe and second princess Samiya Albert and Sophie Rosette who won the best effort for project award received their prizes from different sponsors.
Apart from being crowned the 2016 beauty queen, Miss Barbier also won three other titles ̶ Miss Personality, Miss Sports and Miss Talent.
Miss Barbe took home prizes for the Miss Photogenic title and for the People’s choice award, while Miss Albert won prizes for having the best evening gown on the night of the pageant.
Miss Seychelles…another world 2016 beauty pageant was held at the International Conference Centre of Seychelles on May 28.
The prize-giving ceremony was attended by the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange, principal secretary for tourism Anne Lafortune, chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) Sherin Naiken and deputy chief executive Nathalie Didon.
Seychelles Tourism Board staff, the other contestants as well as sponsors of this year’s beauty pageant were also present for the prize-giving ceremony.
Other than the top winners, all the contestants have received a perfume gift pack sponsored by the Seychelles Trading Company; beauty cosmetics products from My Hair Affection Seychelles; ‘I Love Seychelles’ t-shirts from Red Coral; three months free membership sponsored X Trim Fitness and Wellness Centre; tickets for one-year membership and eco-beach bags from Eden Aquarium; one hamper from East Indies; t-shirts from GAP Events, PR and Communications company; a framed souvenir group photograph from Advance Design & Printing and a bouquet of flowers from the Tourism Board.
Speaking at the event, Miss Naiken said all the 12 contestants are winners as they had the courage to come forward and be part of the Miss Seychelles…another world 2016 journey.
“You must have come out with new skills, experiences and friendships. You have been able to stand public pressures and criticism,” she said.
Miss Naiken described the negative comments about the contestants made on social media were very harsh and inhumane.
Do not let these negative comments get to you. You are all beautiful and courageous Seychellois ladies. Be proud of having joined the journey, she added.
Miss Naiken thanked the the many sponsors coming from the private sector trade, adding that the Tourism Board is grateful for all the support received. She also echoed words of thanks to the team at the Tourism Board for their hard work.
On his part, Minister St.Ange said it is good to see that Seychelles as small as it is can stage a beauty pageant with a purpose. "Today we can announce that the private sector trade have come forward to further encourage our future contestants and that as from 2017, Miss Seychelles ….another world will be receiving Rupees ten thousand monthly for the duration of her reign as her allowance" Minister Alain St.Ange said.
He also spoke on the negative and derogatory comments aired after this year’s pageant which he said is a shame for our country.
Minister St.Ange said that as a people we come from five branches and this we must all respect and appreciate. "Our Miss Seychelles is elected immaterial of the colour of her skin, immaterial of her religious belief , political affiliation or sexual preference. This is Seychelles" the Minister said.
"We need to realise that each and every one of us counts, everyone has dignity and this we should respect. We are all equal and we should all be treated equally" Minister Alain St.Ange added.
To the 12 contestants Minister St.Ange said:- "You are all winners as you have been able to come forward, unlike those who sit at home to critise will never win anything" he said before adding that the Tourism Board continues to count on the private sector trade, the airlines partners and the business community to keep working with together for Seychelles so that we can make our Miss Seychelles…another world 2016 an ambassador of our country.
