Smoking areas at Moscow airport challenged
Almasalla Travel News – MOSCOW — Prosecutors have asked a court to close areas set aside for smokers at one of Moscow s major international airports.
A hearing on the smoking rooms in Sheremetyevo International Airport is scheduled next week in Khimki City Court, RIA Novosti reported. Prosecutors argue the smoking areas violate the law banning the practice in most indoor public places.
Dmitry Vyatkin, deputy chairman of the constitutional committee in the Duma, told RIA Novosti he supports legislation that has been introduced that would specifically allow enclosed smoking areas in airports and train stations.
"We should give those citizens that have unfortunately been unable to rid themselves of this dangerous habit the chance to abide by the law without harming those around them," he said last Friday.
The law already bans smoking in schools, offices and many other places. Starting next year, trains, restaurants and hotels will become smoke free.
