Barcelo Punta Cana leads green initiatives in the Dominican Republic
Almasalla Trvael News – Ashraf El gedawy – LOS ANGELES, California – For the past few years the Dominican Barcelo Punta Cana Resort has taken a proactive role in preserving and protecting the Caribbean Coast. Barcelo Punta Cana’s green initiatives and social responsibility programs did outstanding work, and those efforts were successfully re-certified under the Green Globe Certification program.
“Commitment to sustainability is a valued company practice for Barcelo Hotels&Resorts,” said Sandy Pfeil, General Manager at the Barcelo Punta Cana. “We are delighted to see our resort recognized among the world’s most beautiful eco-friendly properties. It is our responsibility to protect our surrounding environment in every way we can, to train our staff and promote awareness among our guests, suppliers, and associates. While contributing to a better future for generations to come, our sustainability efforts also add a competitive element.”
Barcelo Hotels&Resorts continuously play an important role in the travel and tourism industries’ worldwide environmental efforts. At a corporate level, Barcelo Hotels&Resorts have integrated green practices in the following six categories: waste management, energy saving and biodegradable products, sustainable design and construction, regular staff training to enhance ecological awareness, shared information inviting guests to reuse towels and sheets, and restoration of the native ecosystem surrounding the resorts. As part of its corporate social responsibility and commitment to society and the environment, the Barcelo Group subscribes to the Global Pact that is coordinated by the Culture Association of the United Nations and the Code of Conduct against Sexual Exploitation of Children.
The Barcelo Punta Cana is immersed in local initiatives that give back to the community and environment, and proudly participates in local, national, and international sustainability and cultural events. For this year’s Mother’s Day, the resort hosted celebrations at the local Macao School, providing food, beverages, and entertainment for all mothers and children. In observation of World Environmental Day, guests staying at the property where invited to participate in a special tree planting event held at the hotel gardens. Educational seminars on eco-friendly activities, along with painting classes for children were part of the “Nature Party” that even saw the Avatars.
