History meets outstanding CSR at Hotel Baseler Hof in Hamburg
Almasalla Travel News – LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe announces re-certification of the Hotel Baseler Hof in Hamburg, one of the last privately-owned hotels in Germany. This historic property is part of the Association of Christian Hoteliers, Germany’s oldest hotel cooperation. True to its Christian based-values, the Hotel Baseler Hof has demonstrated social responsibility and a genuine care for the environment for years.
“We are delighted to work with Green Globe as a partner on our environmental policy, and we are very proud about our achievement” said Niklaus Kaiser, General Manager at Hotel Baseler Hof. “Modernizing the kitchens and changing substantial parts of the heating and lighting systems enabled us to reduce energy consumption dramatically. Our main focus, though, was to restore our 19th century building next door. In close cooperation with the National Heritage Department we managed to not only bring back most of the original features dating back to 1820, but also to make the entire building more energy efficient.”
A long-term Sustainability Management System is in effect at the Hotel Baseler Hof – environmental goals are specified and monitored on a regular basis. Some of the best practices include the integration of a carbon footprint calculator for all business trips, use of eco-certified cleaning products, recycled and biodegradable materials, waste separation and ecological waste disposal. Hotel Baseler Hof maintains a policy of favoring certified suppliers located within a radius of 100 miles. The entire team at the hotel benefits from some of the best job-training and benefit programs, including a fund that helps staff members in times of special needs, and a child care center. Due to the hotel’s strong commitment to its staff, the high turnover of employees – common in the hospitality industry – is not an issue here.
The Hotel Baseler Hof has strong ties to a number of charitable programs, contributing to a positive community and environment. Projects such as Lebenshilfe [ www.lebenshilfe.de ], an organization that represents the interests of people with mental disability, and their family members, are of great importance to the hotel. Lebenshilfe wishes to show that mental disability is an expression of human life, which by no means depreciates the value of life. The organization is dedicated to work towards overcoming stigmas in our society. Baseler Hof sponsored the 50-year anniversary celebrations of Lebenshilfe Hamburg.
In line with their Christian philosophy, the Hotel Baseler Hof, works closely with the Catholic Peace Foundation and supports their mission to carry the ethical foundations of peace into current political and religious debates. The overall research goal is to design a new order of peace, worthy of the name and the successor of the strength of the law.
