 Islamic Art in European Museums Expo kicked off in the National Museum in Riyadh

 

 

 

 

aTP-  Arab tourism portal- Marking the European Day, the National Museum in Riyadh on last Sunday (8 May ) kicked off the Exhibition of Islamic Art in European Museums, which was organized by the European Union Delegation to Saudi Arabia in collaboration with SCTH and the Ministry of Culture and Information.

 

The exhibition features 60 paintings from 12 countries from the European Union, representing models of collectables of the Islamic art from a number of European museums. In addition the accompanied exhibition features very rare 106 Islamic relics from the Republic of Germany.

 


Vice-President of SCTH for Antiquities and Museums, and Supervisor of Custodian’s Program for Caring of Kingdom’s Cultural Heritage, Dr. Ali Al Ghabban, in this speech at the opening ceremony of the exhibition in the National Museum has stated that, the doors of the National Museum are always open to any European event held in Riyadh, adding that, relations between Europe and Arabian Peninsula date back to the third century BC through Greek traders who had established trade settlements throughout the Arabian Peninsula one of which at Fursan Island.

 

“Celebrations of European National Day through the exhibition which features 60 photos from 12 museums and 12 European countries, coincides with the participation of the Pergamon Museum in the ongoing exhibition in the National Museum under the theme “Early Capitals of Islamic Culture”, which was organized by SCTH represented by the National Museum in collaboration with the Pergamon Museum of Germany, which displays 106 relics at the Visiting Exhibition Hall in the National Museum in Riyadh.
