Seychelles gears up to celebrate its marine heritage from December 2-9
Seychelles will be hosting a one-week festival in December to celebrate its rich marine heritage.
aTP- Arab tourism portal News- The Seychelles Ocean Festival which will be held from December 2-9, will be replacing the Sub Indian Ocean Seychelles (SUBIOS), also known as Seychelles Festival of the Sea.
The official launch of the event taking place at The Wharf Hotel and Marina on December 2, against a backdrop of the sea and the Eden Island.
A photographic exhibition of Seychelles and the sea – displaying rare and old photographs of our islands’ marine scene. The Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine Alain St.Ange and the chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board Sherin Francis will be addressing those present at the launch ceremony.
During the ceremony, the Seychelles Tourism Board will also launch the new Seychelles Ocean Festival website.
A marine-themed gala dinner will be hosted on December 3 at the Eden Bleu Hotel. The guest of honour for the festival, the chief executive of the Pacific Asia Travel Association Mario Hardy will be giving a presentation during the gala event.
The new Seychelles Ocean Festival is aimed at building on the strong foundation laid down by SUBIOS.
Keeping up with the SUBIOS tradition, the Seychelles Ocean Festival will encourage tourism establishments to join in the week-long festival by hosting marine-themed events of their own.
The department of blue economy will be organising a forum on sustainable fisheries to coincide with the festival while at the same time that there will be a week of specially-rebated diving holidays available through local hotels and dive centres.
A family fun day will be held at Anse Royale on December 4. Activities for the day will include the festival’s triathlon; boats rides, intro dives, snorkeling and canoeing; games and live music show featuring the ‘Horizons’; marine-themed food stalls; underwater treasure hunt and many more.
