Dr Rania Al-Mashat,Egypt’s Minister of Tourism, said: “Everyone in Egypt is extremely saddened at the deaths of British holidaymakers John and Susan Cooper in Hurghada and our thoughts and prayers are with their family at this extremely difficult time.
”Initial medical reports indicate that the two died from natural causes but we wait formal autopsy results in the days ahead.
“We will take every precaution to make sure other tourists are safe and a senior working group will shortly conduct a detailed investigation to eliminate any other possible concerns about the health and well-being of other holidaymakers in the Steigenberger Aqua Magic Hotel.
“As a precautionary measure, Thomas Cook gave an option to the rest of its customers staying at the hotel to return home to the UK or to stay in alternative accommodation in Hurghada.
“Most have decided to continue with their holidays in Hurghada.
“Further updates will be provided as and when any new information is available”
