One Seychelles political party unequivocally condemns the racist comments and hate speech that have been circulating on certain social media groups recently, and acts of physical violence on account of a person’s race or ethnicity.

Alain St.Ange, who has spent much of his professional career marketing Seychelles as a ‘melting pot of cultures’, has expressed his condemnation of those who have taken forcefully to Facebook to make disparaging and outright racist comments about their fellow man.

St.Ange implores other politicians to take a firm stance against such abusive behaviour, noting that they have remained silent on these political pages that are seeing the worst of these unacceptable racist slurs. If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor – Desmond Tutu.

Racism isn’t born; it is taught. We need to actively educate ourselves and instil better values in our children, otherwise this behavior, if left unchecked, will continue to undermine the very essence of what it means to be Seychellois, and will only serve to divide the population, families, and relationships more than politics already does. No one deserves to be persecuted on account of the colour of their skin or their ethnicity.

One Seychelles advocates strongly for Unity and for respect for one another. We hope the relevant authorities are monitoring these abusive posts on the key Facebook pages closely, and trust that any physical attacks on another person on account or their race or ethnicity shall be dealt with swiftly and severely through the appropriate legal channels.
