Top-level ICT industry experts to convene at ITU Telecom World 2016


High-level speakers to explore key questions around importance of collaboration in the digital economy

What is the role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in supporting economic policies at the national level and accelerating research and development? What are the implications of Artificial Intelligence for society? How can the global ICT industry help achieve the Global Goals by 2030? Are connected cars the first signs of an entirely new transportation future or does trouble lie on the road ahead?

These are just some of the questions that will be tackled by an all-star line-up of leaders from government and industry from across the digital ecosystem at the ITU Telecom World 2016 Forum in Bangkok from 14-17 November. Speakers include:

A high-level Leadership Summit will officially open debates on 14 November. The Summit will bring together public and private sector leaders, including Heads of State and policymakers, heads of international organizations, ministers and CEOs from across the world to explore all the reasons why working together is crucial for growth in the digital economy and the best practices for multistakeholder  cooperation.

The Leadership Summit will subsequently open out into main Forum debates. Highlights to look out for include:


Sessions spanning topics such as the reality of AI (artificial intelligence); digital financial services (mobile money); the future of 5G networks (and the internet of things); trust, innovation & trade; or how taxation policy is the hidden key to unlocking growth in the ICT sector.

B2B and B2G dialogues: frank conversations between government and business leaders exploring how corporations and governments can strengthen collaboration with SMEs to improve the outcomes of research and development, accelerate innovation and improve public services.


A ministerial roundtable on the crucial role of governments in advancing the digital economy: bringing together ministers from nations across the world, including Thailand, Afghanistan, Iran, Ivory Coast, Belarus and Singapore.

Economic and Industry expert roundtable: organized in partnership with UN ESCAP and convening experts from global ICT consulting firms, R&D entities, regional and international organizations.

Asia Pacific Exchange: Focusing on Broadband Regulation and Policy: Opportunities and challenges in driving the digital economy, this high-level session will be co-hosted with Huawei, and organized together with ITU’s Regional Office for the Asia-Pacific Region.

"The Leadership Summit and the Forum bring together an expert line-up from all walks of the industry, including key verticals, to explore the major trends and challenges facing our industry," said ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao. Only through collaboration between all stakeholders will our sector be able to fulfil its promise of accelerating ICT innovation for social good. Not only will the latest technologies be debated by international experts at Telecom World 2016, they will also be brought to life in the extensive exhibition space that will shine a spotlight on digital technologies and the solutions they provide."

Running alongside the Forum, this exhibition also showcases investment opportunities from nations, regions, organizations and companies drawn from both emerging and developed markets including high-growth SMEs.

The ITU Telecom World Awards will recognize excellence in ICT innovation with social impact, and a host of networking opportunities will connect exhibitors, delegates, countries, organizations and individuals.
