Tourism and Culture Minister of Seychelles meets Ghana President John Dramani Mahama at his Accra Presidential Offices
ATP- Arab tourism portal- President John Dramani Mahama, the President of the Republic of Ghana met Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture who was on a working visit to Ghana to participate in the UNWTO Regional Conference "Enhancing Brand Africa Fostering Tourism Development".
The Seychelles Minister and Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjara, Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and their colleague Tourism Ministers from Africa were at the Presidential Offices together with Taleb Rifai, the UNWTO Secretary General and her Director for Africa Elsia Grandcourt to meet the President of Ghana as a follow up to his address at the opening ceremony of the UNWTO Regional Conference just a day earlier.
Seychelles and Ghana enjoy strong historical ties ever since the British Government in 1896 transported King Prempeh I, the then Asantehene and some other Asante chiefs to the Seychelles Islands and kept them on the islands as ‘Exiles’.
This was after the Asantes, who were said to be very brave in war, waged series of warfare on the British colonial power.
Some descendants of King Prempeh I are still living in Seychelles Island where they consider as their home.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Asante was in Seychelles in April this year accompanied by Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjara, Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts to be present at the 2015 edition of the Seychelles Carnaval International de Victoria, the carnival that has been dubbed as the Carnival of Carnivals by the International Press.
This year’s carnival was attended by people from 29 countries including a large delegation from Ghana and together they showcased their culture in the form of music and dance.
At the Presidential Offices the Seychelles Minister St.Ange and President Mahama talked about this Ghana Seychelles historical link and the island’s Minister ended his discussions by saying that he wished the President would also make time to visit Seychelles soon.
