ATP-  Arab tourism portal- Hundreds gathered at the People s Stadium in Victoria, the Capital of the Seychelles for a mass Yoga session to commemorate on Sunday 21st June, the first ever International Yoga Day. At 8am, Yoga enthusiasts from all corner of the island turned out with their mats for 45 minutes public demonstration of stretches, bends, breathing and mediation poses introduced by two Yoga instructors, Megha Sonawane Mohite from Pune Maharastra India and a local instructor from Nature Seychelles Green Yoga.

For this world event, the Indian High Commission together with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture has left no stone unturned to make the day a success. Yoga instructors from different centres on the island gave in their time to synchronise the public demonstrations.

The event rallied not only Yoga enthusiasts but government leaders such as Alain St.Ange Minister for Tourism and Culture, Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, who is also responsible for social affairs, community development and sports and Minister Jean Paul Adam, the Minister responsible for Finance, Trade and the Blue Economy.

Also present were high commissioner Panda, principal secretary for tourism Anne Lafortune and that of culture Benjamine Rose and the chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board Sherin Naiken.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


It was at the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, that Nerendra Modi Indian Prime Minister, a faithful Yoga practitioner prompted the United Nations to proclaim June 21st, the International Day of Yoga.

Minister St Ange said by celebrating the event, Seychelles joined the 192 countries in the world to devote a day to this Indian ancient discipline.

“Today, Seychelles as small as we are we’ve joined the Community of Nations to mark this first ever International Yoga Day’’ Minister St.Ange said The high commissioner Panda said Seychelles has made history.

“Today it is not Seychelles, but every Seychellois have endorsed the UN resolution. We are proud to join hands together and support the world effort. Let us make Yoga our lifestyle statement, let’s popularise it,” he said.
