Number of flights to and from UAE to hit 1.4 million by 2025
ATP- arab tourism portal- The Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO) expects global airlines to operate around 1.4 million flights to and from the UAE by 2025, reports UAE-based Al Bayan. This comes in the light of ICAO projections that by 2030 the number of these flights will rise to 1.85mn, in accordance with the UAE Air Traffic Management Strategic Plan.
The plan was prepared by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), which has projected that the total number of flights will be approximately 1,856,909 in 2030.
CANSO states that Dubai International Airport is the world’s top airport for international passengers and handled some 71mn passengers last year.
It also estimates the cumulative annual average growth rate to be 6.45 per cent from 2015 to 2020 and 3.2 per cent from 2020 to 2030 for total civilian operations in UAE airspace.
CANSO stresses that millions of dollars are being spent annually for the deployment of innovative technologies, systems and solutions to reduce congestion in the skies in the Middle East, which suffer from saturation and require “effective and coordinated” use of technology.CANSO Director General Jeff Poole says, “Technology will help to harmonize systems, processes and traffic flows in a global way.
Technology has the potential to free the Middle East of its present ATM fragmentation and constraints. The ATM challenges must be addressed if the region’s aviation industry is to continue its extraordinary success.”
