DWC passenger traffic nearly doubles in first half

 

 

 

 

 

aTP-  Arab tourism portal News – Passenger traffic at Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central (DWC) nearly doubled in the first half of the year, largely due to the launch of flydubai services there in late 2015, operator Dubai Airports said yesterday.

 

DWC handled 410,278 passengers in the six months to June 30 compared to 209.989 passengers in the year ago period, according to the latest traffic report released by Dubai Airports.

 


It did not provide a monthly breakdown.Located in the south of Dubai near Jebel Ali and along the Abu Dhabi border, DWC is the Emirate’s second airport and opened to passenger traffic in October 2013.

 


It is at present served by 17 passenger airlines and 34 scheduled cargo operator.Budget carrier flydubai started 35 weekly flights from DWC in October 2015 and will increase services in the winter schedule, operator Dubai Airports said.

 

The number of aircraft landings and take-offs, or movements, increased 4.8 per cent to 18, 126 in the first half of the year.

 

The amount of cargo handled fell 2.9 per cent to 443,011 tonnes.

 

All scheduled freighter operations moved to DWC from Dubai International, the Emirate’s main airport,in May 2014.
