Eco-friendly marathon in Seychelles goes digital

Almasalla, ATP News- For the first time since its launch in 2008, the eco-friendly marathon in Seychelles will see the introduction of an electronic mat to clock in the participants’ time as they complete the race.

With tags attached at the back of each participant’s number sticker, the chip timing system will mean that results will be produced and audited quickly and effectively for all the races. If this system becomes a permanent fixture, it will help cut back on human resources and paper costs in the long run.

The organizing committee will also curb on the use of plastic cups this year, instead participants will be getting small, conveniently sized 5ml bottles.

The Association of International Marathons & Distance Races (AIMS) has written to the organizing committee informing them that their certificate which certifies the marathon’s routes for five years, has expired.  This means that a measurer will be coming down prior to the day of the event to re-measure the routes and write a report.

Three elite Kenyan runners are showing an interest in the marathon but they are still in negotiating process with their manager and their participation is yet to be confirmed.

The eco-friendly marathon, the brain child of Mr Dong Chang Jeong, Seychelles’ Honorary Consul General for South Korea, will this year take place on Sunday the 22nd of February, starting at 7 a.m. at the Beau-Vallon promenade .

With the date and the venue already decided on and the medals and t-shirts already in the country from INOCEAN M&C, our South Korean sponsor, all we need now is for more people locally and internationally to simply get a form and register for the eco-friendly marathon.
