Ministers mull boosting pan-GCC tourism
Almasalla,G AT News- KUWAIT (KUNA) — Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Acting Minister of Higher Education Abdulmohsen Al-Madaj stressed the need for developing and enhancing cooperation to give a boost to pan-GCC tourism.
"The meeting focused on ameliorating tourism sectors in the GCC states to increase pan-GCC tourism," Al-Madaj told reporters following a meeting of the GCC tourism ministers in Kuwait Tuesday.
He added the meeting also thoroughly discussed the role of the private sector in the Gulf countries to supporting the tourism.
"We are also totally convinced of the great tourism potential of Gulf states," Al-Madaj said.
He called for making the best use of the Arabian Peninsula’s great heritage and historical sites to attract tourists.
For his part, President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud highlighted the importance of the issues addressed by the ministerial meeting.
He urged expanding cooperation among GCC states in developing this pivotal economic sector.
Prince Sultan highlighted the role of pan-GCC tourism in strengthening people-to-people relations.
He called the GCC private sector to invest in tourism infrastructure, services and facilities.
