Victoria, the Capital of the Seychelles is set to be more colourful and vibrant the 29th Creole Festival
Almasalla,Gate Arab Tourism News- The Creole Festival, a celebration of our culture in all its depths is here once again and all is being set to transform Victoria, the capital of the Creole world, into a colourful and vibrant town.
The décor of this small but unique town is set to be spectacular this year, as the committee responsible for the organisation of the festival has put their thinking caps on to ensure that Victoria truly shows off as being the Creole capital of the World.
Prior to the official launch of the 29th Creole Festival, decorations will be put up in Victoria, to set the ambiance and liven up the town.
Senior coordinator for special events in the department of culture Michel Vielle said decorations will go up as from October 18. Three monuments will be decorated in Victoria namely- the Victoria Clocktower, Bicentennial and Unity monuments.
Mr Vielle, who is also the head of the decoration sub-committee, added that these monuments are located in key areas, thus the decorations of lights will be more visible.
The main decoration in Victoria will be the open-air art gallery along the Independence Avenue, where paintings of Seychelles’ renowned artists will be hung up. Over 30 paintings are being reproduced on bigger boards of 3m high and 1m wide.
Mr Vielle added that this will help to liven up the town and bring a more colourful and vibrant ambiance to it.
This decoration dubbed as an ‘open-air art gallery’ will also give artists more visibility and will make their work known. "We are doing this because for the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and for the Tourism Board, it is our island’s culture that remains the base for the marketing of our tourism industry.
When we say our culture it is our people, because without our people we would not have our culture" a representative of the Creole Festival said.
The committee has also proposed to decorate buildings such as the Liberty House, Independence House, National Cultural Centre, Oceangate House, Development Bank of Seychelles, Pirates Arms and Natural History Museum with large drapes of blue, yellow, red, white and green- the five colours of our national flag. Our national flag will also be used as part of the décor for the town.
Other areas in town where decorations will be put up are the 5th June Avenue and the Francis Rachel street.
Owners of buildings in town are also being encouraged to decorate their premises and join in the Creole Festival ambiance.
Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture said that everyone can play a part to show that they are proud Seychellois as the country moves closer to the official opening ceremony of the 29th Edition of their Creole Festival. "Do not be ashamed to show that you are part and parcel of the Creole Culture that makes our islands what they are today" said Minister St.Ange.
