Seychelles Tourism Board and partners donate to schools
"So brothers and sisters,
Friends of the ocean, the land and the air
Let’s keep our environment clean
For each and every one of us
Depend on a clean and healthy environment"
Almasalla,Gate Arab Tourism News- These beautiful words are from Beau Vallon primary student Elaine Louise s poem entitled Green and Beautiful, a testimony to the awareness the youths of Seychelles have on the importance of taking care of their environment.
The poem was recited during a fitting occasion; during a ceremony whereby three partners had jointly donated garbage bins to three schools of the islands.
English River secondary, Beau Vallon primary and the Anse Royale school received garbage bins from the Seychelles Tourism Board, Marie-Antoinette Restaurant and Boat House restaurant.
The ceremony was held at the English River secondary school and was attended by the chief executive of the tourism board Sherin Naiken, its deputy chief executive Nathalie Didon, representatives of the three schools, environment and education departments, Miss Seychelles…Another World 2014 Camila Estico, sponsors, teachers and students.
Speaking at the ceremony at the English River secondary school, Marie-Claude Morel said schools not only teach what is set in the curriculum and students not only learn what is being taught from the curriculum, but learning of waste management also takes place.
She added that it is important for students to learn the importance of keeping a clean environment not only at school but also on a national level.
Mrs Morel said a clean environment is a great boost to the Seychelles tourism industry, which is the main pillar of the island’s economy.
Addressing those present, Miss Sherin Naiken said that communities play a vital role to keep the Seychelles tourism industry going, and schools are a key part of the community.
She called on all communities in Seychelles to work together so that the Seychelles tourism industry can prosper.
On behalf of the schools, head teacher of the Anse Royale secondary school Fabian Palmyre thanked the sponsors for the generous donations, which he said will be put to good use.
Richard Mancienne, owner of Boat House restaurant called on the students to use the garbage bins wisely, and to encourage other people outside their schools to put garbage bins in the communities to good use, thus helping to keep a clean environment.
The event was organised as part of Tourism Week being celebrated in Seychelles under the theme- Tourism: Our communities’ greatest wealth.
