Seychelles President appoints a new Board of Directors for the Seychelles Tourism Board
Almasalla,Gate Arab Tourism News- In accordance with Section 4 of the Seychelles Tourism Board (Amendment) Act 2008, the President has appointed a new Board of Directors of the Seychelles Tourism Board for a period of three years with effect from 25th August 2014.
The full composition of the Board is:
Ms Wendy Pierre – Chairperson, Mr Patrick Payet – Member, Captain David Savy – Member, Mr Freddy Karkaria – Member, Mr Christophe Gangster – Member, Mr Paul Hodoul – Member, Mr John Stravens – Member
Following the appointment Minister Alain St.Ange the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture met with Ms Wendy Pierre, the new Chairperson of the Tourism Board at his Office at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in ESPACE Building. Also present at the meeting by Sherin Naiken, the CEO of the Tourism Board, Anne Lafortune, the PS for Tourism and Jenifer Sinon, of the Tourism Board who is ale the Secretary of the Board.
Minister started by Congratulating Ms Pierre on her appointment and assured her of his Ministry’s total support.
"The Tourism Board of Seychelles is mandated to market the destination. Our Tourism Board is driven by the island’s private sector who have four out of the seven Board Members and they have also seen the Government appoint the person they had nominated to be the Director of Marketing for the Seychelles Tourism Board. The Tourism Department of the Ministry on the other hand is responsible for policy and regulatory matters" the Minister explained at the meeting.
Mrs. Pierre on her side welcomed the support of the Ministry and gave her commitment to help the Tourism Board achieve its objectives. She also expressed her wish to familiarize herself with the work of the Tourism Board as early as possible so that she can get maximum exposure and information required for her to discharge her duties effectively.
Mrs Pierre was also informed of the arrival in Seychelles on the 15th September of a few of the bosses of some top French tour operators which will play a key role in repositioning the Seychelles French market. Mrs Pierre has been invited to join Minister St.Ange in the meeting with the tour operators for valuable interaction which would benefit the Seychelles Tourism Board in the planning of their marketing strategies for the French market.
Minister Alain St.Ange and CEO Sherin Naiken also used the meeting to invite Mrs Pierre to join the Seychelles delegation to attend the Top Resa Tourism Trade Fair in France later this month. This will be the perfect opportunity for the new Chairperson to witness the Tourism Board at work and for her to be more knowledgeable of the general marketing strategies of the Tourism Board. Ms Pierre explained that joining the delegation to Top Resa would be difficult due to the short notice, but was interested to join in for the World Travel Market in London later in November.
Discussions at the meeting also centred on the inter ministerial meeting taking place on Friday. The Minister personally extended an invitation to the new Chairperson to be present at the meeting in order for her to be aware of the different concerns raised by the Tourism trade and the Government Ministries with regards to the challenges of the tourism sector and for her to obtain maximum exposure and information on the current issues happening in the industry .
Minister St.Ange and Mrs Pierre concluded the meeting by agreeing to meet on a monthly basis to discuss matters that require the Minister’s attention and intervention.
