France President Francois Hollande in Reunion Island
Almasalla,Gate Arab Tourism News- France President Francois Hollande arrived this Thursday, on Reunion Island. Hi was visited the island, which last 24 hours, is the first leg of his tour as he continues to Mayotte and Comoros. On the occasion of his visit to Reunion Island, the first since his election in 2012, the head of state opened Reunion Island National Park for the day.
Francois Hollande, President of the France Republic, landed at the airport in Pierrefonds and after spending the morning in the south of the island, the President took the road to the Plain of Palmistes where the headquarters of the Reunion Island National Park was established in 2007 and has been listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO since 2010.
The head of state opened the National Park in the presence of many economic actors of Reunion Island, including the President of the Region, Didier Robert. President Hollande said that the National Park has “a duty to preserve [its] environment, but also to enhance and promote it." For him, the island’s territory has an “… overall attractiveness of the island but also to the international reputation of France." He stated his message under the banner of protecting the environment and heritage for tourism development on Reunion Island.
The President will continue his visit on the island until Saterday before flying to Mayotte, the next stop of his tour in the Indian Ocean.
