Japanese companies to provide 21% of Boeing 777X
Almasalla- Arab Travel Portal News – The Japan Aircraft Industries (JAI) consortium will provide about 21% of the major aircraft structure components on the Boeing 777X under terms of a memorandum of agreement signed this week.
Boeing launched the 777X program last November at the 2013 Dubai Air Show, and in January settled on conducting final assembly of the next-generation widebody, slated to enter service in 2020, at Boeing Commercial Airplanes’ facilities in the Seattle area. In February, it selected Everett, Washington, as the location to build a new composite wing center for the 777X program.
The accord struck with JAI calls for Japanese companies to provide fuselage sections, center wing sections, pressure bulkheads, main landing gear wells, wing components, wing-body fairings and passenger, cargo and main landing gear doors for the 777X. JAI is a consortium comprised of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Fuji Heavy Industries, ShinMaywa Industries and NIPPI Corporation.
“The companies that make up the JAI are consistently high performers, deliver superior quality and have worked with us to meet affordability goals for the 777X,” Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Ray Conner said in a statement.
Boeing noted Japanese aerospace companies are partners in manufacturing the 737NG, 737 MAX, 747, 767, 777 and 787. “This agreement with our Japanese partners extends our important and strategic relationship for decades to come,” Boeing president-Japan George Maffeo said. “As the 777X is larger than the current 777, the value of the structural components procured from Japan will be proportionately higher, generating more value for our partners as well for Boeing.”
Production on the 777X is targeted to start in 2017.
