Prince Charles visits the historical Daryiah
Almasalla Arab Travel Portal News – Britain s Crown Prince of and Prince of Wales, Prince Charles on Wednesday, 19th February, visited the historical Daryiah in Riyadh.
Upon his arrival at the venue, His Royal Highness Prince Charles was welcomed by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammad bin Nawaf bin Abdul Aziz, Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to the United Kingdom, along with His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz President of SCTA, and His Highness Prince Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman, Al Daryiah Mayor, in addition to a number of senior officials of SCTA and the ADA (Ar-Riyadh Development Authority).
Prince Charles during his visit viewed the exhibition of Al Daryiah Development Project, and listened to detailed explanation by His Royal Highness President of SCTA on the project work stages which aims to transform the historical site, which is a member of World Heritage List, into a tourist and cultural center on the national level while preserving its historical, cultural, environmental and architectural features.
His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman briefed the Crown Prince of Britain on the features of "King Abdullah Project for the Care of Cultural Heritage of the Kingdom" which was approved recently by the Cabinet, and that it includes a number of urban heritage projects, and the most important of which is Al Daryiah historical area development project.
Prince Charles, accompanied by Prince Sultan, then made a visit to the Turaif neighborhood in Al Daryiah historical site during the tour and inspected the underway restoration works in Al Zewaiher Mosque. The tour included visiting a number of buildings and pathways that are under restoration.
Afterwards, the Prince Sultan bin Salman offered a banquet at his ranch, Nakheel Al Ezaibat, in the honor of Prince Charles. The banquet was attended by Prince Mohammad bin Nawaf bin Abdul Aziz, Ambassador of the Custodian to the United Kingdom, and British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sir John Jenkins, in addition to a number of Their Highness Princes.
In a press statement, Prince Sultan bin Salman, welcomed HRH Prince Charles, describing him as the loving friend of the Kingdom, indicating that, his continuous visitations to the Kingdom reflects the depth of relation binding him to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is an extension to the special relation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom.
“The common denominator between me and Prince Charles is the interest in the urban heritage,” Prince Sultan said in his appreciation and gratitude to the efforts of Prince Charles in the urban heritage field.
President of SCTA in his statement disclosed that Prince Charles expressed his admiration for the growing attention to heritage in the Kingdom, an interest driving the national heritage through a series of decisions and regulations, culminating in the historic decision to adopt the "King Abdullah Project for the Care of Cultural Heritage of the Kingdom", which lays the foundations for a quantum leap in the conservation of national heritage projects in the Kingdom.
Noteworthy, in recognition of his efforts in the field of urban heritage, President of SCTA had granted Prince Charles the Award of Lifetime Achievement in the Heritage field which was granted by Prince Sultan bin Salman Award for Urban Heritage in its first session in March, 2006.
