Adelaide Airport achieves record number of passengers

Arab Tourism News Portal " Almasalla" – Adelaide Airport s growth continues to soar, with a new record of 207,000 international passengers for the quarter ending September 2013.

The 26.1% increase in international passengers reflects both an improvement in load factors and a 13.7% increase in capacity, despite a weak economic environment.

While Emirates began services in October 2012, Singapore Airlines increased its frequency to the airport in July, and other carriers have also boosted services.

The quarter has also seen AirAsia X start direct services to Kuala Lumpur and Jetstar plans to commence flights to Bali next month.

Adelaide Airport’s managing director, Mark Young, said: “The international growth seen at Adelaide Airport continues to gain momentum as more and more carriers see the potential in the Adelaide market.”

Domestic passengers for the quarter grew 3.6% to 1.5 million, with the Adelaide-Melbourne route providing the largest contribution of 37,000 passengers.

Sydney, Brisbane and Perth routes declined slightly year-on-year.

Regional passengers decreased by 7.5% – a result of the weak economic conditions and reduction in mining traffic, according to the airport.
