9th of November a night to remember ……and the GNTO Overnight Statistics for August show another rise for 2013

Almasalla Travel News – London- the 9th November is a highly important date in the
German calendar and a momentous landmark in world history: the day when the
Berlin wall came down. What better way to celebrate the ‘Fall of the Wall’ than
with a 16+ month consecutive rise in visitor numbers? The wall may be down, but
the number of overnight stays by UK visitors is up: August 2013 shows an
increase of +14.7% compared to the same period for 2012 and for the inclusive
period January – August 2013, there is an overall increase of +9.1% compared to
2012.

As with many famous milestones in world history, people often ask ‘where were
you when the Wall came down?’ Whether you were there or not at the time, there
is plenty to celebrate in modern Germany and it would seem visitors from the UK
are discovering for themselves the sheer choice and diversity Germany has to
offer.

City breaks continue to be highly popular, but throughout the summer, visitors
have discovered the German countryside, activity holidays, cultural breaks, and
camping holidays. Germany’s tempting culinary scene, with its regional and
exciting seasonal variations continues to devour foregone conclusions of German
food and family holidays are popular due to the superb value for money they
provide (particularly during 2013, with a 200th anniversary of the Brothers Grimm
to celebrate).

Klaus Lohmann, Director GNTO UK and Ireland said: “The ‘Fall of the Wall’ in
1989 was highly significant for tourism. It created a new country, a New Germany
just waiting to be discovered and it would seem that more and more visitors from
the UK are doing exactly that. Germany is a cosmopolitan travel destination that welcomes everyone, from all walks of life, whatever their interests or reason for
their visit and we look forward to seeing you there”.
