Agnes Gerry crowned Miss Seychelles- another World 2013

Almasala Travel News –  In the idyllic setting of Eden Plaza on Eden Island, with a stunning backdrop of ocean and luxury yachts, 19-year old Agnes Gerry was crowned Miss Seychelles …

Another World 2013, on Saturday, May 25th to the tune of Cliff Richard’s hit “Congratulation” as boats blared their sirens. Raised in a modest background she is considered as a simple island girl.

Agnes, who is a student of the Seychelles Tourism Academy(STA), with her sights initially on a career as a tour guide, was rather emotional when her name was called out by host Dereck Savy and outgoing Miss Seychelles Sherlyn Furneau who parted with the crown won last.

Songbird Michelle Marengo , the co-host, commented that there was a full moon and starry sky, auguring well for the pageant as the 14 beauty contestants stepped on the catwalk from a yacht in the marina.

A drizzle midway through the pageant seemed like a blessing from the heavens as the contest went into another gear with the evening gown round.

Agnes Gerry later told the press that her hopes soared when she passed the elimination process and made it to the top seven.

Her mum, Joyce Gerry, who was among the audience backing her all the way, said that it was the best birthday present that her daughter had even given her..

The other six finalists were: Rohana Adelaide, Lindy Barallon, Francesca Lablache, Isha Hoareau, Angele Quatre, and Nikita Nourrice.

The CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB), Ms Elsia Grandcourt said as she addressed the crowd that the pageant was more than a parade of exiting beauty, but rather one of ”beauty with a purpose”. She reminded everyone of the happenings and the duties that come to the evening’s winner.

The First Princess was 17 year old Isha Hoareau, who also won the “Miss Photogenic“ and “ Miss Personality awards.

18 year old Lindy Barallon, took the Second Princess spot, also winning title “People’s Choice” award.

All contestants paraded in casual wear, swimwear and evening gowns – after which, awards for “Miss Photogenic”, “Miss Evening Gown,” “Miss People’s Choice, and “Miss Personality “ were announced.

The 7 finalists had to answer questions from a panel of seven judges. They were 1994 Miss Seychelles Marquise David, Air Seychelles GM for Corporate Affairs Alan Renaud, Creole Travel Services GM Guillaume Albert, Director of Seychelles European On-Line Reservations, Daniella Payet-Alis, Director of “Societe Miss Reunion” Amida Hussein, Director of Model Plus Milan Model Agency Allessqandro Pindilli and South African print artists Bambo Sibiya.

The questions focused on the environment, the role of women and Seychelles’ best tourism assets. Agnes Gerry will now take part in the Miss World pageant in Indonesia in September. She also becomes Seychelles’ international tourism ambassador, representing the islands at trade fairs abroad as well as national events. This will allow her to develop important PR, marketing and negociating skills.
