aTP- Arab tourism portal- Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, President of SCTH, Head of the Supervising Committee of the Saudi Exhibition and Convention Bureau , chaired the 10th meeting of the committee at the headquarters of SCTH in Riyadh.
In a press statement following the meeting, President of SCTH announced that, the Saudi Academy for Event, Conventions and Conferences would be launched in September 2016, adding that, the academy will be a Riyadh-based and joint-stock company and the National Center for Tourism Human Resources Development (Takamul) has contributed to its support and establishment.
This academy, which is the first of its kind in the Middle East, focuses on the development of human resource in Saudi Arabia in order to become one of the key supporting sources for the convention and exhibition sector.
President of SCTH in his statement commended the people who undertook the establishment and operation of this academy, stressing the importance of capacity building of Saudi citizens in this sector and allowing the job seekers to become investors in small and medium services in this important economic sector.
On the potential of finding specialized cities for convention and exhibition, President of SCTH, explained that, the efforts are underway in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority to find cities for conventions and exhibitions within the access to major airports in a number of Saudi cities, at forefront of them are King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah, in addition to a city for conventions and exhibitions at Souk Okaz in Al Taif.
During the meeting, President of SCTH commended the concrete progress made by the sector in the regulation and promotion of its services since its launch in May 2013.
President of SCTH on the other hand commended the cooperation of the investors and officials in the sector with SECB, and the regulations and programs it puts into effect for developing and regulating the sector. HRH expected the sector to witness quantum leap in the next few years, especially in light of the economic growth that the Kingdom is experience and the great attention towards convention and exhibition industry by the public and private authorities.
At the beginning of the meeting, the first ever program of service applications on the mobile devices was launched, and then a number of issues related to the tasks of the Supervising Committee and work progress in the program were discussed.
The Supervising Committee meeting also approved the SECB plan for 2016-2018, and also approved a bill of policies and procedures for holding conferences in the Kingdom and posting it on the SECB website for the feedback of the sector concerned people. The meeting in its decision approved SECB’s plan for participating in IMEX 2016 fair.
