aTP-  Arab tourism portal- Dubai, UAE  Dubai-based Gulf For Good has announced its first trek in the Kingdom of Bhutan, the first-ever charity challenge from the Middle East to that mystical country,  off-limits until recently to most travellers.  It will be G4G’s 61st Challenge since its foundation in 2001.

The “Land of the Thunder Dragon” Challenge will take participants to the country that treasures Gross National Happiness more than Gross National Product.  Extraordinary Buddhist sites and the undisturbed traditional culture of Bhutan make it the last remaining great Himalayan Kingdom, and the group will hike over mountain passes and through stunning forests and landscapes dotted with colourful prayer flags and old monasteries.

The demanding seven-day trek from 15 to 23 April will push the challengers, who have to raise their own sponsorship to take part, out of their comfort zones to support underprivileged children.

Funds raised will expand and improve the EcoFarm Home for orphans outside Kathmandu, Nepal that was built with the proceeds of earlier challenges.  The trekkers will have the opportunity to visit the Home and meet the kids.

All participants can join free fitness sessions in Dubai to help them boost their fitness and prepare for the challenge.  Participants will receive a comprehensive challenge pack with guidance on training, kit and sponsorship, and attend briefings to address concerns and questions before the trip.

Later 2016 Gulf for Good challenges include climbing the ‘bucket-list favourite’ Mount Kilimanjaro in early July, and hiking, cycling and kayaking around the remote Musandam Peninsula in northern Oman over the National Day holiday in December.  A November Asian Challenge cycling from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Angkor Wat in Cambodia is also envisaged.
