UAE s Tawazun, Boeing break ground on new aviation factory
ATP- arab tourism portal- ABU DHABI, UAE-based Tawazun Precision Industries (TPI) has joined hands with aircraft manufacturing giant Boeing to break ground on its new aerospace surface treatment plant in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The project will create high value jobs in the UAE, and enable the opportunity for TPI to produce complex metallic assemblies for Boeing, its suppliers and other aerospace OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) around the world, said senior company officials at the groundbreaking ceremony held at the Tawazun Industrial Park in the UAE capital.
Tawazun CEO Saif Al Hajeri said: “We are pleased to be part of this unique project which further fosters the UAE’s regional leadership in high-technology defence manufacturing.
”“The establishment of this capability is a significant step for the UAE’s aerospace industry, as the metallic components manufacturing and metallic sub-assembly will be performed entirely in the UAE,” he stated.
The project, made possible by the Tawazun Economic Council, was first announced at the Dubai Air Show in 2013, and is scheduled to be operational in 2016.On the new venture, Matar Al Romaithi, the chief officer, Tawazun Economic Council-Industrial Development Unit said: "The collaboration between TPI and Boeing signifies the vital role the council plays in adding economic and commercial value to the UAE economy.
"Boeing Middle East president Bernie Dunn said the new complex will be a state-of-the-art facility that will contribute to the growth of the UAE aerospace industry."The development of key capabilities through partnerships is of mutual benefit to both Boeing and the UAE," he added.
TPI chief executive Dr Phillip Lewis said the project was a strategic investment and a key enabler for the company, which will secure a sustainable titanium and aluminum machining capability, with the potential to become a regional and global centre of excellence.
"It provides the foundation for the development of a significant metallic aero-structures assembly facility to be established in the UAE," he added.
