aTP-  Arab tourism portal News –  Abu Dhabi International, the country’s second busiest airport, recorded a 7.9 per cent increase in passenger traffic in July, operator Abu Dhabi Airports said on Tuesday.

 


The airport, the base of Etihad Airways, handled 2.26 million passengers in July compared with 2.1 million in the same month a year earlier, according to an Abu Dhabi Airports statement.

 


The operator said Eid Al Fitr, which was in July this year, contributed to a surge in monthly passenger traffic.The top monthly destinations from Abu Dhabi, London, Bangkok, Doha, Mumbai and Manila, accounted for 16 per cent of passenger traffic.

 


The number of passengers travelling to India in July rose by 15.6 per cent and traffic to the United Kingdom grew by 7.7 per cent, Abu Dhabi Airports said. Traffic to Australia increased by 28.1 per cent and to the United States grew by 17.2 per cent.Total passenger traffic for the first seven months to July 31 were up 6.8 per cent to 14.1 million.

 


Meanwhile, the number of aircraft landings and take-offs, or movements, have declined. They were down 2.7 per cent to 14,659 in July and fell 0.9 per cent in the first seven months to 99,147.

 


The amount of cargo handled at the airport has also fallen. It was down 3.7 per cent to 66,355 tonnes in July and is down 5.7 per cent to 455,547 tonnes in the first seven months of 2016
