aTP-  Arab tourism portal News – Members of the Chinese Association of Seychelles gave Minister Alain St.Ange, the Minister of Tourism and Culture a tour of the construction site of the new Chinese Pagoda of Seychelles of Benezet Street in the heart of Victoria.

"Construction of the new Chinese Pagoda started in earnest some two years ago and it is today around 66% completed" Andre Lownan, the Project Director for the construction of the Pagoda said to Miniser St.Ange and PS Benjamine Rose, the PS for Culture in the presence of the Charlie Ng, the Association’s Chairman and Members of his Committee. Also present were representatives of the Construction Company.

It is now just over a week since Rose Mary Lee-Bluemner and Elizabeth Kimkoon of the Seychelles Chinese Community called on the Minister responsible for Culture to seek support for the construction works of the Pagoda, and following press coverage of this meeting many in the local Chinese Community have been actively pushing to see what can be done to help complete the construction project of the Seychelles Pagoda.

"Today we realize that the reconstruction of this Chinese Pagoda in the centre of Victoria is about 66% complete. We know that this Pagoda will again be the home of the "Guandi", the "Chinese God" that Chinese elders worship and as such it is also a religious site as it had been in the past. During this visit today I again assured the representatives of the Chinese Association that our Department of Culture will continue to work with them on the re-construction project of their Pagoda because we appreciate the importance of this Pagoda for Seychelles" said Minister St.Ange at the construction site.

The contractors present at the meeting also confirmed that the roofing material for the Pagoda had now arrived in the country. The dialogue between the Government and the Chinese Association will continue as both parties agree on the need to unite forces to monitor the progress of the reconstruction of the Chinese Pagoda of Seychelles.
