The Seychelles Ministry of Tourism and Culture creating a more conducive environment for the National Archives workers

Almasalla Arab Travel Portal News – Following the reopening of National Archives in February 2014, Alain St.Ange, the Minister for Tourism and Culture visited workers and the management team to monitor their reintegration in the building and to listen to their aspirations and needs.

 

The visit in the presence of Alain Lucas, Director of National Archives started in the National Archives lobby area. "The lobby area is the first impression that visitors get when entering National Archives" Minister St.Ange said as he urged the National Archives Team to create a friendlier image in the lobby area.
 

The next stop was the Archives Research centre. The section is one of the main areas in the National Archives exposed to the threat of high Fungicide level. The is one of the reason Minister St.Ange was explained why the Research Centre is today now fully equipped with UV lights and the different rooms of the Building with a Dehumidifier. At the time of the visit, workers of National Archives were using this research area to also scan archives documents.
 

 Minister St.Ange pointed out that no documents from Archives Repository should be scanned in the Research Room and arrangements are being made to relocated the staff in appropriate offices in the building to ensure a more conducive working environment. As he visited the different sections of National Archives, Minister St.Ange took time to listen to suggestions from the staff.

 

 

 

 

In the Archives administrative section, the Minister raised the issue of overcrowding and plans for the re-organization of the office. He also touched based on a new scheme introduced for workers employed in the National Archives call ‘inducement allowance’. Minister St.Ange also stressed on the importance for documents stored in National Archives to go through the proper phase of treatment in the repository at Providence before they are transferred into National Archives. He also inspected the lift of the building that has not been operational for last six odd years. "This lift is to make the lives of the staff easier instead of carting heavy boxes up and down the main staircase. We need to get it repaired so that it can serve the purpose for which it was installed initially" the Minister said.

 

The Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture has said that he will be personally continuing visits of the different departments of his Ministry as this is s sure way to keep him connected to the Ministry’s staff and for him to update himself of the workplace of each and every member of his Team.
