Seychelles National Assembly passes a Copyrights Bill inline with WIPO & WTO

Almasalla Arab Travel Portal News – Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture presented the Copyrights Bill 2014 to the National Assembly sitting with Hon Andre Pool, the Deputy Speaker in the Chair. In presenting the bill Minister Alain St.Ange said:- "It is with pleasure that I am presenting the Copyrights Bill 2014, a bill that will help us be in line with the realities of the day. The bill before the House follows recommendations received from WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) and it will ensure that Seychelles has a Copyrights Bill that is up to date with the global development and with the protection in the field of copyright. Mr deputy Speaker, the first Copyright Bill of Seychelles became law in 1982. It was then revised in 1991. Today we find it necessary to once more review the bill.  This revision being presented as the Copyrights Bill 2014 will help the Seychelles accession to the World Trade Organisation, but Mr Deputy Speaker it is important to point out that what is good for our accession to the World Trade Organisation is also good for us, for our people and also for our country. The revision of the bill before the House will help us play our part in the Community of Nations and it will help us to better defend the interests of our artists, composers, writers etc." said Minister St.Ange as he presented the Copyrights Bill 2014 to the Seychelles National Assembly.

Hon Marie-Antoinette Rose, the Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly, Hon David Pierre, the Leader of the Opposition as well as the elected Members for Bel Ombre Hon Bresson, Anse Aux Pins Hon Marie, La Digue Hon Guislain, Takamaka Hon Bristol and the Proportionally elected Member, Hon Pillay all spoke in support of the Bill that was then passed by the House on Tuesday 1st April 2014.

Sitting with Minister Alain St.Ange as he presented the Copyrights Bill 2014 to the Seychelles National Assembly was Benjamine Rose, the Principal secretary for Culture.
