All Hotels Under HMH – Hospitality Management Holdings Switch Off Lights to Mark Earth Hour
Almasalla Arab Travel Portal News – In line with their commitment to reducing carbon emission, all hotels under HMH – Hospitality Management Holdings turned off their non-essential lights for one hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm (local time) to commemorate Earth Hour on March 29.
Laurent A. Voivenel, CEO, HMH – Hospitality Management Holdings, said, "We are glad to support this wonderful initiative that is intended to raise awareness about climate change and the need to check our carbon footprint. Everyone has a role to play. Earth Hour is one of the most powerful environmental campaigns and has been instrumental in mobilizing global action".
Laurent further stressed, "Like any other industry, it is absolutely essential to improve energy efficiency and reduce waste in hotels. Switching off lights for an hour across the world may not significantly cut down consumption but it helps to reach out the message to a huge audience and that’s where the true value of Earth Hour lies. The campaign has succeeded in driving attention to key reasons behind global warming and has encouraged a new wave of corporate activism thus contributing directly toward the ultimate goal: helping to solve the climate crisis. It is an awesome campaign and a great inspiration. And at HMH we are proud to be a part of it".
As the clock struck 8.30pm 20 hotels under all four brands of HMH namely The Ajman Palace, Coral Hotels & Resorts, Corp Hotels and EWA Hotel Apartments plunged into darkness for an hour, leaving only the essential lights on. The event was enthusiastically supported by guests as well as staff.
Organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Earth Hour famously started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007 and has since grown to engage more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide.
