Sultan bin Salman Urban Heritage Award opens nomination for students and professionals
Almasalla Arab Travel Portal News –The Secretariat General of Prince Sultan bin Salman Urban Heritage Award has recently announced the start of the 5th session of the students and professionals award, and opening the nomination for them from 18th March to 30th September, 2014.
Dr. Osama bin Mohammad Nur Al Johari, Secretary General of both Al Turath and the Award in this context has stated that, applying for the award is allowed to students of colleges of architecture and planning, tourism, antiquities, design and arts, in addition to specialists, professionals, private and public departments in the GCC countries.
The award has been attracting people who work in the urban heritage field. Number of participants in the award is seeing remarkable increase year after year. Each category has particular application form, and the award is granted to new projects carried out by students, professionals and architects that reflect their success and their inspiration of the urban heritage.
The award is also grated to the projects of rehabilitation and restoration of architectural areas, heritage and archeological buildings, and projects for reutilization of such areas in a manner that ensures their development and continuation, besides it is granted to researches associated with the study of urban heritage as long as these research are devoted to the urban heritage in the GCC countries.
The award aims at supporting the urban heritage on the national and Arabian Gulf levels, in addition to highlighting the architectural talents of GCC states’ students who during the last session have affirmed their belonging and ability to inspire the urban heritage in their new projects.
Dr. Al Johari explained that, the award was launched by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, founder of Al Turath, and Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the award and President of SCTA, on 2nd January, 2005, to recognize and honor any efforts that may contribute to the preservation and development of the urban heritage.
