 APEC Ministers Meeting: Bogor Goals  Sustainable Growth with Equity  and Promoting Connectivity

 

Almasalla Travel News – By Ashraf El gedawy – The APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) that is ongoing in Nusa Dua  Bali. Indonesia from 4 to 5 October 2013 is attended by ministers from the 21 member countries  and is chaired by Indonesia s Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and Trade Minister  Gita Wiryawan. Among main agenda items discussed are: Attaining the Bogor Goals, Achieving Sustainable Growth with Equity, and Promoting Connectivity.

 

Indonesia has put forward 20 strategic concepts to be discussed at the AMM, among which are: promotion of open trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region, ensure equitable sustainable growth for all levels of society, promote the connectivity initiative, and infrastructure development and investment.
 
 
Other concrete recommendations from Indonesai were also discussed , namely: ensuring that the international market continues to be open for Indonesia’s exports, promote the role of women, small industries, and that of fishermen and farmers in economic development, increase people to people connectivitiy through cross-border education, and increase disaster preparedness in the region.
APEC Ministers will also decide on the priority agenda for APEC 2013. APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) is the economic cooperation organization among the 21 countries around the Pacific rim, comprising : Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, China, Hong Kong-China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexiko, Papua New Guinea, Peru, New Zealand, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam.
 
 
The APEC Ministerial Meeting deliberates on recommendations from the earlier Senior Officials Meeting As host and Chair of the meeting Indonesia will chair a number of substances to be submitted to the APEC Summit that will convene on 6-8 October 2013, attended by Heads of State. The APEC Summit is scheduled to be attended by 21 Heads of State, four Observing Heads of State, and covered by thousands of local and international media.
 
 
In the latest development, Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa informed that US President Obama has personally called Indonesia’s President Yudhoyono to regret and confirm that he will not be able to be present at the APEC Summit on account of USA’s domestic issues. The US Delegation will be led by Secretary of State, John Kerry.
