UAE’s Rotana Jet outlines expansion plans

ATP-  arab tourism portal- Rotana Jet plans to “aggressively” expand its route network, following the launch of services between its Abu Dhabi base and Beirut on Thursday. Chairman Ahmed bin Saif Al Nahyan said the carrier will add new destinations, plus higher frequencies to existing points.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) airline, which describes its business model as a “value for money” operator rather than a low-cost carrier (LCC), has already added several destinations in recent years.

Rotana Jet launched as an executive jet carrier in 2010 and began operating scheduled services in 2012. It now has three Embraer ERJ-145 regional jets and two Airbus A319s, with plans to increase its fleet to12 aircraft by 2017.

Its initial routes encompassed domestic services within the UAE, notably to the offshore islands of Delma and Sir Bani Yas, cutting out ferry trips. It has gradually expanded into other Persian Gulf destinations such as Muscat, Kuwait and Muharraq and last year began services with its first A319 to Sri Lanka. It has also recently increased frequencies to Kuwait, plus Muscat and Salalah in Oman.

The UAE carrier plans to increase its network to other cities in region the near future, with Doha and unspecified points in Egypt due to follow shortly.

It intends to help fill flights through the creation of an associated holiday company, Rotana Travel and Tourism, which will distribute vacation packages to destinations existing Rotana Jet destinations.
