Sharjah Ruler opens 1st Capitals of Islamic Culture Exhibition
Almasalla,G AT News- SHARJAH (WAM) — His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, opened today the " Early Capitals of Islamic Culture-The Artistic Legacy of Umayyad Damascus and Abbasid Baghdad (340-30 H)"Exhibition.
The event was held at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation (SMIC).
Upon his arrival, Sheikh Sultan was received at the exhibition by Sheikh Khalid bin Isam Al Qassimi, Director of Civil Aviation Department, Dr Stefan Weber, Director of the Berlin Museum of Islamic Art and curator of the exhibition and a number of senior officials in Sharjah.
Sharjah Ruler was briefed on more than 100 archaeological finds, Islamic calligraphy, decorative arts, and exquisite artifacts from the first centuries of Umayyad and Abbasid rule, centred on their capitals Damascus and Baghdad.
Dr Stefan Weber, Director of the Berlin Museum of Islamic Art and curator of the exhibition expressed his happiness and pride to be invited to attend the Sharjah Capital of Islamic Culture 2014 Celebrations.
