Seychelles Tourism Board spearheads SUBIOS change
Almasalla,Gate Arab Tourism News-The Seychelles Tourism Board has opened a dialogue with certain of the Seychelles dive centre representatives as a preliminary move in the reinvention of its annual SUBIOS event.
SUBIOS will this year be held between the 21 to the 23 of November. But based on discussions recently held between Seychelles Tourism Board representatives and a small number of members of the local diving community, it was felt that SUBIOS, which has been an event since 1990, would benefit from a change of direction and from the injection of fresh ideas to bring it up to date and in line with the targeted marketing strategy of the tourism board vis á vis one of its most popular niche markets.
“SUBIOS has been around for a long time and has been a very popular event and an important forum for educating visitors and locals alike about the islands’ magnificent marine heritage,” remarked Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister for Tourism & Culture, “but, notwithstanding its value, popularity and the job that it has done for Seychelles, both at home and abroad, the time has come to rebrand the event in a way that will allow it to benefit from new ideas and developments on the local marine scene.”
The Minister went on to explain that a meeting of all members of the local diving community will soon be called to take on board further ideas for changes to the old SUBIOS. “We have heeded their call for change and their input in charting the course of a new event based on Seychelles’ many and varied ocean attributes will be invaluable.”
One popular feature will be maintained: the photographic and video competition and all local divers and photographers will soon be asked to contribute both stills and video footage for the forthcoming competition in mid-November 2014 while local hotels will be invited to come on board with dedicated soirees around a seafood theme.
“We are at the initial stages of redesigning our event and there will be much room for input from the local diving community who we would also like to ask for any pictures of SUBIOS down the years which they might possess to make an exhibition of an event that has brought such a lot to us all.”
Minister St.Ange explained that the schools will be invited to work with the organizers to get the school children involved through photographic exhibitions, paintings and poems.
