Almasalla,Gate Arab Tourism News- Through the eyes of an artist is the statement behind an arts exhibition that was held on the island of Praslin as part of the activities falling in the Praslin Culinary & Art Fiesta last weekend.   "With passion the great artists of Praslin unfolded the mysteries of nature and their inspirations were translated into impressive arts collection" are words of arts enthusiasts who had gathered at the Berjaya Praslin Beach Hotel at Cote D’Or beach on Praslin.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The island’s stunning natural beauty, the livelihood of its people and its pristine vegetation became the artists’ source of inspiration. On canvas Cyril Jean, Terence Payet, Chantal Rose, Jeff Lesperance, Daryl Kirchner, Alain Marie, Jude Commarmond, Allen Barreau, Raymond Du Buisson, Raissa Lebanotis , Daniel Stravens and Rita Morel combined their techniques of acrylic and water colour paints to bring out the best in nature much closer to the passionates of the arts.
 

Daryl Kirchner, whose work can be viewed at “Gallerie Passerose” at Cafe des Arts, brought an interesting technique at the exhibition, that of “taxidermies”.   Embalmed puffer Fish and Male Catkin of the Coco de Mer lured visitor’s curiosity. Praslin Island has of a pool of some 15 established artists. The 12 artists taking part in the exhibition are today exhibiting their works at Rita’s Arts Studio & Gallery.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rita Morel addressed the official opening of the Arts Exhibition in the presence of Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, Minister Peter Sinon and Minister Mitzy Larue, the Hon Natasha Esther, the Elected Member of the National Assembly for Baie Ste Anne Praslin, Praslin District Administrators, PS for Tourism Anne Lafortune, CEO of the Tourism Board Sherin Naiken, CEO of the National Arts Council and Tourism Personalities of Praslin, and members of the Organising Committee of the 2014 Praslin Culinary & Arts Fiesta. Mrs Morel said that the “exhibition is an excellent platform to give recognition to Praslin artists’’.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Artists on Praslin are, according to Seychelles National Arts Council, still striving to remain in the league of competition.  In 2013, the council set up an artistic committee on Praslin. Artists of visual arts and other forms of art that are all part of the creative industry are represented on the committee.
 

Jimmy Savy, the chief executive of National Arts Council urged artists of Praslin to “unite their forces’’ and to work together to bring the arts to greater height on Praslin.  
 

Officially opening the exhibition Alain St.Ange, the Minister for Tourism and Culture, saluted the Praslin artists who kept working tirelessly to “overcome obstacles” and continued to give value added plusses to their works. Minister St.Ange said that in order for the Praslin artists and for our creative artwork as a whole to gain recognition, charity must begin at home. “
 

Hotel establishments, my message to you is to use more Seychellois artworks, which one day can become valued works of art’’.  In 2013, Ministry of Tourism and Culture announced plan to open a permanent National Arts Gallery in Victoria for artists to showcase their artworks.

 

 "Today we can confirm that your National Arts Gallery will open its doorsruing  Festival Kreol 2014, that is this coming October, The National Arts Gallery will also house our country’s National Collection, the collectors pieces that are held by the Culture Department of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

 

 Today I want to urge artists of Seychelles to work with the Ministry to ensure your works are included in this National Collection, because next year we are planning to publish a Coffee Table Book on the Artists of our Country and the National Collection will be the base which will be used for this book" said Minister St.Ange.

The Minister also confirmed that one of the paintings recently handed over by Raymond Du Buisson of Praslin has also now been added to the National Collection and will find its pace in the new National Arts Gallery in Victoria.
