The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) is currently studying all the requirements and strategies needed to continue its successful support of the tourism sector in the emirate of Sharjah, enabling it to enter a new phase of business on par with the requirements of the coming period, said Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of the SCTDA.
Al Qassimi was speaking as Chair of the Board of Directors attended by SCTDA Director General H.E. Mohamed A. Al Noman and members H.E. Ali Salem Al Mahmoud, H.E. Abdullah Al Owais, H.E. Abdul Wahab Mohammed Al Roomi and H.E Marwan Jasim Al Serkal. The meeting took place at the Sharjah Oil Council and discussed the current status of the tourism sector in Sharjah and the Authority’s strategies for 2010 to support and develop tourism promotion.
Al Qassimi opened the meeting by welcoming the Board members, confirming the SCTDA management’s commitment to continuing its efforts to maintain Sharjah’s high standing in the international tourism and business sectors.
Board members then discussed various topics, including the outlines for the coming period and the competition in providing the best services and facilities in light of the numerous challenges facing the trade and tourism sectors, which will in turn affect the tourism and business industry in the emirate.
Al Qassimi also praised the SCTDA team for their successful organization of the Etisalat-Sharjah Water Festival 2009 and the final round of the F1 Powerboat World Championship – Sharjah Grand Prix, and stressed the important role of the festival and the necessity to develop it in the coming years. Board Members commended the unprecedented success the festival achieved under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the kind support of H.H. Sheik Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
He further said that SCTDA will continue to promote Sharjah locally, regionally and internationally by attracting international entertainment and sporting events, among other tactics, and stressed that more work and collaboration are needed to put in place strategies for the new year, in addition to expanding the emirate’s participation in local, regional and international events and developing promotional and tourism attractions to effectively enhance and develop the tourism sector in Sharjah.
Other topics discussed at the meeting included Sharjah’s tourism attractions, expanding participations at international tourism and commerce-related conferences, and opening new markets to attract more tourists to the emirate. SCTDA Board members praised the Authority’s participation in various international fairs through.
The results of an SCTDA study on Sharjah’s tourism sector and the suggested strategies to develop the sector, compatibility with the new promotional plans, and the extension of the SCTDA’s participation at international conferences and events were reviewed by the board members, as H.E. Mohamed A. Al Noman presented a number of new plans for the tourism sector in Sharjah, which could greatly enhance the performance of this sector over the next few years.
At the end of the meeting, the Board of Directors recommended focusing on new plans to promote Sharjah, expanding participation in local, regional and international events, and developing promotional and tourism activities in the emirate.
