Egypt agrees on nominating Farouq Hosny to preside over the UNESCO

President Hosny Mubarak approved the nomination of Minister of Culture Farouq Hosny to preside over the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Culture Organization (UNESCO) during the elections to be carried out in 2009 for selection of the new President in replacement of the present President Koshiro Matsura.

In a statement for Al-Masalla Electronic Newsletter Hosny said that the approval of President Mubarak on nomination that are taking place at the time being on the level of member states is regarded as honour and great responsibility that should be tolerated candidly.

He explained that if this matter was fulfilled and an Egyptian presided over this deeply rooted organization in year 2009 it would be the first time of assigning an Arab to the post, which would be an honour and appreciation to all Arab countries not for Egypt only.
