The Minister of Tourism Zuhair Garrana said that Mersa Allam-Edfu road will be opened at a length of 230 kilometers on Sunday following the end of road pavement works and completion of the road. He pointed out that the road became prepared for usage without any hurdles.

The Minister added that Mersa Allam Edfu road is one of the key roads for increasing the tourism flow from Red Sea governorate to tourist cities in Upper Egypt, for cutting short the distance for the tourist to be Mersa Allam – Edfu – Luxor directly instead of the old road Mersa Allam – Safaga – Qena – Luxor.

He explained that the new road will lead to the increase of tourism movement to Upper Egypt where Recreational Tourism is merged with Cultural one together, that would avail for tourist enjoying beach tourism in the Red Sea and Cultural Tourism in Luxor and Aswan and other cultural tourist cities.

He made it clear that the cultural tradition existing in Upper Egypt cities, foremost of which Aswan and Luxor that comprise many places of visit that represent the Pharaonic civilization, which attract many tourists who love the cultural type of tourism, that would enhance the proportional advantage of the Egyptian Tourism Product and adds a new dimension for the tourist, who would be able to visit the Egyptian antiquities without losing much time in travel from the beach cities on the Red Sea coast to Edfu, Luxor and Aswan, which would contribute in upraising the tourism movement in these cities and occupation rates all the year long, following the achievement of high occupation rate in the first half of the current year.

It should be noted that the length of the new road is 230 kilometers and work on its establishment began late 2005, where the General Authority for Roads and Bridges assumed implementation of the project in collaboration with Red Sea and Aswan governorates in addition to the Ministries of Tourism and Interior. The Ministry of Tourism contributed with L.E. 7.7 Million in this project.
